Cultivating Courage: A virtual tea ritual.

How often do we take a long, deep breath and realise we need to be brave?

Asking for a promotion.

Admitting we were wrong.

Having a conversation we’ve been avoiding.

Beginning again after a hard day.

Daily life offers plenty of moments that call for courage, and they’re rarely dramatic.

More often, they are quiet, everyday choices that ask us to draw on our inner warrior: choosing to stay present rather than walk away, listening when it would be easier to shut down, or speaking the words we’ve been holding back.

Time after time, we’re invited to step into the unknown. And sometimes, the simplest way to begin is with a quiet cup of tea.

The Courage ritual is a short, at-home tea ceremony designed to help you reconnect with the strength that already lives within you. With tea as a steady companion, each sip becomes a small act of support; grounding you, softening you, and helping you meet what’s ahead with an open heart.

When I recorded the Courage ritual, I knew I had a long-overdue and challenging phone call ahead of me. During the conversation, I stayed grounded and anchored, able to listen even when I didn’t like what I was hearing. I held my centre, remained open, and spoke honestly.

The call went far better than I expected. Afterwards, it was clear to me that my morning tea ritual, focused on cultivating courage, had quietly fortified me for the day ahead.

The Courage ritual is part of The Tea Break Series, a selection of short, virtual tea ceremonies created to support you through the everyday moments that ask for steadiness, presence and care.

Acknowledgement of Country

Tea Lady Ceremonies emerged on Bunjalung Land, in the NSW Northern Rivers.

It is my privilege to live, work and raise my family here, to swim in the cool salty ocean that laps against this soil, to frolic with my family in fresh watering holes, to walk barefoot through the forest at the edge of my garden.

This land, belonging to the Arakwal, Minjungbal and Widjabal People, was never ceded. I recognise and celebrate the ongoing connection between land, sky, water and community and the beauty and strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. .

I pay my deepest respects to the Traditional Custodians of this land; past, present and emerging.
