Your daily tea ritual. Notes from a tea ritualist.

A warm seat in my coastal garden, morning sunlight on my face

A cool patch of earth in the rainforest, away from the afternoon heat

A cosy sheepskin, fireside, when the evening is dark and quiet.

These are some of my favourite spaces and moments for my very own tea ceremony, in or around my home in Byron Bay.

At a time that works for me,

in a place where I can be comfortable, uninterrupted,

I sit while my tea steeps, and I breathe.

My mind slows; my body softens into stillness.

I sink into a deep inner peace.

Sitting in tea presence, steam rises, herbal fragrance finds my nostrils. I gaze into my tea’s reflection.

Then comes the joy of simply sipping. Tasting my herbs fully and feeling my tea become me.

In these moments there is nothing else I need to do, nowhere else I need to be.

This is my very own tea ritual. The simple daily practice that is my sanctuary, a space for returning, for listening, for remembering, resolving, and for beginning again.

I savour the simplicity of this ritual, especially on full days. My daily tea ritual is the quiet pause I know I can depend on.

How about you? Do you have favourite places and treasured moments for your very own daily tea ritual?

Acknowledgement of Country

Tea Lady Ceremonies emerged on Bunjalung Land, in the NSW Northern Rivers.

It is my privilege to live, work and raise my family here, to swim in the cool salty ocean that laps against this soil, to frolic with my family in fresh watering holes, to walk barefoot through the forest at the edge of my garden.

This land, belonging to the Arakwal, Minjungbal and Widjabal People, was never ceded. I recognise and celebrate the ongoing connection between land, sky, water and community and the beauty and strength of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people. .

I pay my deepest respects to the Traditional Custodians of this land; past, present and emerging.
